Partners

The development of the One Water LA Plan recognizes that collaboration with City Departments, Regional Agencies and Community Partners is essential for implementing new programs, projects, and policies that will ensure a reliable water supply, improve communities and protect the environment for all Angelinos. This section describes the nexus between each City Department and One Water LA.

CITY DEPARTMENTS

Department of City Planning (DCP)
Through the City's Comprehensive Zoning Code, the DCP develops rules and regulations that are flexible to accomodate the City's diverse physical landscape and uses. One Water LA works collaboratively with DCP to ensure that policy directions on stormwater capture, drought tolerant plants, open space, and other standard water mitigation measures are included in provisions of the Zoning Code for homeowners and developers. Department of Neighborhood Empowerment (DONE)
The DONE promotes public participation in government and works to improve government responsiveness to local concerns. One Water LA partners with DONE to increase public awareness and education for water resources issues. For more information on DONE, click here.

 

Department of Public Works (DPW)

  • LA Sanitation (LASAN) along with the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) plays a lead role in managing the City's One Water LA effort. LASAN administers the City's Clean Water Program that is responsible for wastewater collection, conveyance and treatment. Additionally, LASAN administers the Watershed Protection Program that focuses on flood control and pollution abatement related to stormwater. For more information on LASAN, click here.
  • Bureau of Engineering (BOE) plays a key role in administering the City's Floodplain Mangement Plan and delivering the Wastewater Capital Improvement Program. Additionally, BOE implements other sustainable capital projects throughout the City. One Water LA partners with BOE to look for opportunities to assist BOE in implementing strategies included in the Floodplain Management Plan in coordination with other Citywide Master Plans to improve watershed health.   • Bureau of Street Services (BSS) plays a lead role in delivering innovative street services to develop a more green and prosperous LA. One Water LA partners with BSS to implement multi-benefit Green Street Projects that promote sustainable, low impact design and reduce street flooding and polluted runoff to rivers and the ocean. Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP)

The LADWP is a key partner with LASAN in leading the City's One Water LA effort. The LADWP develops citywide plans such as the Urban Water Management Plan and the Recycled Water Master Planning documents to heavily invest in local water supplies (water conservation, recycled water, stormwater capture and groundwater management) to reduce future reliance on purchased imported water. LARiverWorks implements the LA River Revitalization Master Plan to enhance existing communities by creating a safe environment with more open space, parks, trails, recreation, tourism, economic development, and environmental restoration. One Water LA partners with the Mayor's River Project Office to determine the optimal approach to balancing the City's water supply needs with the needs of the LA River. Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety (LADBS)

The LADBS permits the installation of water appliances and fixtures for residential, multi-family, and commercial buildings in compliance with the Los Angeles Green Building Code. One Water LA works with LADBS to assist property owners with the process involved in utilizing sustainable onsite technologies to increase water efficiency and water conservation efforts. Department of Recreation and Parks (RAP)

The Department of Recreation and Parks maintains and operates over 400 sites for recreational use that include parks, public golf courses, and recreation centers. One Water LA partners with RAP to assist with identifying needed improvements and community needs for additional recreation and parkland. Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT)

The LADOT plays a lead role in the planning, design, construction, and operations of transportation systems in the City. One Water LA partners with LADOT to improve transportation infrastructure in the City by implementing multi-benefit Great Street projects that captures and infiltrates stormwater runoff, while also expanding cycling infrastructure. General Services Department (GSD)

The General Services Department plays a key role in managing facilities, equipment, supplies, maintenance, and other support services. One Water LA partners with GSD to increase the use of recycled water at City-owned facilities and other surplus properties. For more information on GSD, click here.

 

Port of Los Angeles (POLA)

The Port of Los Angeles is a propriety department of the City of Los Angeles and an environmental leader in the industry that places a high priority on responsible and sustainable growth initiatives, environmental stewardship, and community outreach. One Water LA partners with POLA to identify recycled use opportunities for facilities, parks, plazas, and open spaces to reduce potable water use. For more information on POLA, click here.

 

Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA)

Los Angeles World Airport owns and operates a system of three airports (Los Angeles International, LA/Ontario International, and Van Nuys) that play an integral role in helping to meet the Southern California regional demand for passenger, cargo and general aviation service. One Water LA partners with LAWA to explore recycled water opportunities, increase drought tolerance  landscape, and incorporate stormwater capture Best Management Practices. Los Angeles Zoo (LA ZOO)

The LA Zoo is home to more than 1,100 mammals, birds, amphibians and reptiles representing more than 250 different species of which 29 are endangered. Empower LA
