NOTICE OF CALIFORNIA CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT

If you pay or paid the City of Los Angeles for sewer services for a single-family residence or multi-family residential building of four or fewer units between May 4, 2016, and June 30, 2022, click here for important information. NOTICE: The Claim Filing Deadline has been extended to October 24, 2023.

WHAT GOES IN EACH BIN?

The standard container allotment for single-family dwellings and each unit of a duplex served by LA Sanitation & Environment is one 60-gallon black container for trash; one 90-gallon green container for organics (yard trimmings, food scraps, and food-soiled paper); one 90 gallon blue container for recyclables. Some households have brown bins, by request, for horse manure. The standard allowance for multi-family dwellings is one 60-gallon black container for trash and one 90-gallon blue container for recyclables per dwelling unit for refuse; one 90 gallon green container for yard trimmings for the lot. If your multi-family building is serviced by a recycLA service provider, the containers and sizes are determined by your building owner or manager.

By placing material in the proper bins, you can prevent contamination that occurs when wet or non-recyclable items are discarded in the BLUE bin, and when anything other than yard trimmings, food waste, or soiled paper are placed in the GREEN bin. Non-recyclable items such as hoses, animal waste, treated wood and wood-products, cloth/fabric, and fats/oils/grease in sealed containers belong in your BLACK bin. Household hazardous waste and e-waste may be taken to S.A.F.E. Centers. If you have questions, need to request a new bin, or have items that are too large for your bins, please call our Customer Care Center at 1-800-773-2489.
