Cesar Chavez Ground Water Improvement

DESCRIPTION
Construction of the Cesar Chavez Groundwater Improvement Project was completed at the future site of the 41-acre Cesar Chavez Recreational Complex. This Proposition O project retrofitted an existing gas collection system that provided for the conveyance of methane gas from the Sheldon-Arleta landfill which closed in 1974. T

his project will provide ground water recharge of up to an additional 10,800 acre-feet per year of rainwater from the Tujunga Wash to infiltrate into the Tujunga Spreading Grounds.

Future site improvements for the Cesar Chavez Recreational Complex include baseball and soccer fields and walking trails.

The partners for the project included the City of Los Angeles, California Integrated Waste Management Board, and Urban Development Areas Planning Grants Project.

 

FUNDING
Proposition O provided funding in the amount of $2,527,873 for this project. Additional funding in the amount of $6,801,230 was provided by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, the California Integrated Waste Management Board, Urban Development Areas Planning Grant and CIEP.
